Step 5:  Printing the Labels from Wasp

This guide was written for Platinum Version 9 of AccuPOS Retail Management.  If you are running an earlier version of AccuPOS or not running Platinum, you will notice differences in the look of the Retail Management program.  Also, the Wasp Labeler pictures were taken from Wasp Labeler version 6.0.0.

Step 1:  Set up printer and Install Software: (top)

The first step when working with Wasp is to install the software.  Close all programs and insert the Wasp Labeler CD into the CD-ROM.  Follow the on-screen instructions for a typical installation of Wasp.  Once installed, there should be a shortcut on the desktop.  If one isn’t present, go to Start -> All Programs -> Wasp Technologies -> Labeler -> Labeler.

Next you need to install the printer drivers.  Whether you will be using a HP DeskJet (for example) or a Zebra Label printer, the correct drivers must be installed with the installation disks received with the particular printer hardware.  Also, when using a dedicated label printer, it is a good idea to set the label size using the label printer properties.

Step 2:  Creating a New Label: (top)

When Wasp first opens, the Welcome window appears.  Select Blank Label and hit OK (Figure 1-1).  You will be presented with a blank label.  The next step is to set up the label file so that it reflects the actual label that is to be printed.  To set up the label size:

  1. Go the Printer Setup tab and select the printer driver that was installed for the printer that is to be used to print the labels (Figure 1-3).

Figure 1-3

  1. Go the Layout tab and select the label family and type (Figure 1-4).  To determine what family and type your labels are, refer to the packaging the labels can in or contact the manufacturer of the labels.  In the examples in this guide, Avery labels are being used because the printer is a DeskJet.

After setting the label size to reflect the labels being used, the Label Wizard must be run so that Wasp can integrate with AccuPOS Retail Management.  To run the Label Wizard:

  1. Go to File -> Run Label Wizard (Figure 1-5).  The Label Wizard window appears.

Step 3:  Configuring the Layout of the Label: (top)

Now that the label template has been set to integrate with AccuPOS Retail Point of Sale, you must arrange the label to your liking.  Typically, it is recommended to move the barcode object, which can be moved by holding down the left mouse button on the object, to the left-most side of the label.  This is because the barcode stretches to the right depending on the length of the barcode that must be generated.  Also, AccuPOS recommends using Code 128 symbology for the barcode object, though it is not required.  To set this symbology:

  1. Right click on the barcode object and select Properties (Figure 2-1).  The Object Properties window appears.

Figure 2-1

  1. Select Symbology and, using the drop down arrow, select Code 128.  (Figure 2-2)

Figure 2-2

  1. Close the properties window.

With this symbology, the size of the barcodes is reduced.  This is extremely helpful when trying to print out long barcodes on smaller labels.

Just as the barcode object can be moved around, so too can the description and price objects.  A simple example of a label setup can be seen below (Figure 2-3):

Figure 2-3

Step 4:  Setting Barcode Counts in AccuPOS: (top)

Now that the label is setup, it is time to let Wasp know how many barcodes need to be printed out.  The number of barcodes to be printed is set inside AccuPOS Retail Management.  To set Barcode counts:

  1. Go to Barcoding -> Set Counts for All Items (Figure 3-1).  The Set Barcode Counts window appears.

Figure 3-1

  1. Before setting counts, it’s usually good practice to clear the old counts.  Click on Clear All (Figure 3-2).  This will reset all the barcoding counts to zero.  If this if the first time setting counts, you do not need to Clear All.

Figure 3-2

  1. To set the number of barcodes to print, select the item.  Enter the amount of barcodes to print in the text field and click on Set Quantity (Figure 3-3).  The quantity will be shown in the Item List.

Figure 3-3

  1. Continue to set quantities for the remaining items that need to be printed out.  You may select multiple items at a time by using the shift-click method.  (Figure 3-4)

Figure 3-4

Step 5:  Printing the Labels from Wasp: (top)

Now that the barcode quantities are set inside AccuPOS Retail Management, it is time to print them out using Wasp Labeler.  To print out labels using Wasp:

  1. Go to File -> Print Preview (Figure 4-1).  The Print Preview window appears.

Figure 4-1

  1. Select the radial option Dynamic From Column in Data Source (Figure 4-2).  The Dynamic From Column in Data Source window appears.

Figure 4-2

  1. Using the drop down arrow for the column setting, select [barcode].[Quantity] (Figure 4-3).  Hit OK to return to the Print Preview window.

Figure 4-3

  1. Hit Print Preview (Figure 4-4).  You will be taken to the print preview.  From here, it is a good idea to look through the preview to make sure that all barcodes will print correctly and will fit on the labels.  If there are labels that do not look correct, adjustments can be made to the objects in the labels.
